Meet The Team

Our team of pediatricians take a collaborative approach to your child’s health care. This means that while you may have one doctor as your primary physician, your file is maintained by the office, ensuring that no matter which of our doctors you see, you will receive continued, consistent care.

Pediatricians

Dr. Robert J. Everett

MD, FRCPC

As a consultant pediatrician, Dr. Everett enjoys caring for children of all ages. He has a particular interest in newborn care, and the care of children with medical complexity. From 2017-2022, he was Medical Lead of Pediatrics and Newborn Care at B.C. Women's Hospital. 

He enjoys teaching medical students and residents, and is a regular presenter at medical education events for other specialists, family physicians and midwives. 

He lives in Delta and has three adult daughters. His partner is a Child Life Specialist with Fraser Health. In his spare time, he enjoys being outdoors, hiking, fishing and playing golf. 

His philosophy of care is based on open and honest communication with families and embracing their role as equals in helping to provide care to the children we see.

Dr. Pernille Faaborg-Andersen

MDCM, FRCPC

Dr Pernille Faaborg-Andersen completed her pediatric residency training at University of British Columbia in 2013, after obtaining her medical degree at McGill University. In addition to working at Fairmont Pediatrics, she also works at BC Women's Hospital in the Level 2 Nursery. She enjoys caring for children of all ages, with a particular interest in newborn care.

Outside of work, she loves spending time with her partner and 2 children. She loves hiking, cycling, and good food.

Dr. Robynn Geier

MD, FRCPC

Dr. Geier has worked as a General Pediatrician throughout the province. She currently provides care to families at BC Women’s and Surrey Memorial Hospital, and is part of BC Children’s rural outreach team in Dawson Creek. She enjoys being a clinical instructor for medical students and residents, and continuing to learn from her patients’ unique health experiences.
 
Outside of work, she is an avid downhill skier, runner, and cyclist, and is currently on a mission to bake the perfect chocolate chip cookie. She loves spending time outdoors with her husband and two children, who enjoy eating all the cookies.

Dr. Shawn George

BSc, MD, FRCPC

Dr. George is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Pediatrics and Medical Lead for Pediatrics and Mother Baby Care at BC Women’s Hospital. 

He completed his Pediatrics residency at BC Children’s Hospital (UBC) and has developed strong interests in neonatal care, medically complex children, and developmental pediatrics. 

In his downtime, he enjoys spending time with his family, running, golfing, and rooting for his favorite sports teams. 

"Being the parent of a child with autism has ignited my passion for advocating on behalf of families with extra needs. I enjoy supporting children of all abilities, and love watching my patients exceed our expectations."


Dr. Anne Marie Jekyll

MD, FRCPC

Dr. Jekyll completed her medical degree and pediatric residency at the University of British Columbia. She is a dedicated general pediatrician who now works at Fairmont Pediatrics, BC Women’s Hospital and the B.C. Children’s Hospital Spinal Cord Clinic. 

She has special interest in newborn care and congenital spinal cord disorders. When she’s not working Dr. Jekyll loves spending time with her husband and two sons, enjoying the outdoors and staying active by running in the trails.

Dr. Megan Kilvert 

BSc, BPHE, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Kilvert completed her medical degree at the University of Toronto and her Pediatric Residency Training at BC Children's Hospital. She has special interests in newborn care, hospital-based pediatrics, child development and caring for children with medical complexity. She is also very involved in the residency program at UBC, supporting pediatricians-to-be as they navigate the many challenges of training. 

She enjoys skiing, running, reading and puzzles (jigsaws, crosswords, wordles, Sudokus). Outside of work you are most likely to find her at a park with her husband and kids. If you see her 'in the wild', say hi!

Dr. Elizabeth de Klerk

BSc, MD, FRCPC

Dr. de Klerk completed her pediatric residency training at UBC. She currently provides general pediatric care at Fairmont Pediatrics, BC Women’s Hospital, and Royal Columbian Hospital. Her special interest is in working with children on the autism spectrum, and she has recently started performing developmental assessments at Sunny Hill Health Centre.  
 
During her free time, Dr. de Klerk loves spending time with her husband and son. Together they enjoy hiking, backcountry camping, and discovering new local cafes in search of the best cappuccinos and cookies!

Dr. Natasha Benson

MD, FRCPC

Dr. Benson moved from the Okanagan to Vancouver to complete her medical training at UBC, followed by her paediatric residency at BC Children’s Hospital where she graduated as Lead Resident. During her training, Dr. Benson fostered her strong values of prioritizing family centred care through building relationships with and being a strong advocate for her patients and their families.

She has a keen interest in full scope pediatric care and is working as a general pediatrician at Fairmont Pediatrics, BC Women’s Hospital, and Richmond General Hospital and as a clinical associate in the neonatal intensive care unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her Bernese mountain dog and is always on the hunt for the best baked goods in the city.

Dr. Samara Laskin 

BSc, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Laskin completed her residency training at UBC, and now works as a general pediatrician at Fairmont Pediatrics, BC Women’s Hospital, BC Children’s Hospital, and as part of BCCH’s pediatric outreach team in the Downtown Eastside. She enjoys the diversity of her work, and has special interests in newborn care, inpatient pediatrics, childhood development, and working with underserved populations.
 
Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family, cycling, and traveling.

Dr. Peter Louie

MD, FRCPC

Dr. Louie is a consulting pediatrician caring for children from birth to adulthood. He works at Fairmont Pediatrics, BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital, and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. His interests are in newborn care, children with medical complexity, and education.   

He enjoys spending time with family, travelling, cycling, swimming and gardening.

Dr. Min S. Phang

MRCP (UK – London), FRCPC

Dr. Phang grew up in Sarawak, on the Island of Borneo. He finished his medical studies at the University of Aberdeen and completed pediatric training in the UK. He completed his Canadian pediatric training at British Columbia's Children's and Women's Hospitals.

Dr. Susan Poitras

MSN, M.Sc. Psych., RN, CPT-S, RCC

Susan Poitras is a pediatric nurse, healthcare clinician, child psychotherapist (play therapist) and registered clinical counsellor.

She has dedicated her career and worked in various roles working at BC Children’s Hospital and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice to support different pediatric populations to improve the health and welfare of children, youth, and families.

Her approach supports a person and family-centered approach to care, offering inter-professional knowledge, skills, and experience of over 30 years with the aim to empower children and families to meet their goals and foster wellness. She works together with people focusing on strengths, relationships, and communication.

Susan works with children, youth, parents/caregivers, and adults with life challenges.

• Mood and regulation of symptoms for anxiety, ADHD, and depression

Dr. Chantel de Ruiter

MD, BScN, FRCPC

Dr. de Ruiter attended medical school at UBC- Vancouver and completed her Pediatric Residency in Calgary, Alberta. Following the completion of her Residency in 2021 she moved back home to beautiful BC to start her career as a consultant pediatrician. 

Along with working at Fairmont Pediatrics, she also provides neonatal ICU and newborn care at St. Paul’s Hospital and Lion’s Gate Hospital.

 In her leisure time, she is with her two small fur babies (dogs) and enjoys anything on the water, including, kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming. Her next goal is to join the power and sail squadron and expand her boating knowledge!

“I have multiple areas of special interests within pediatrics including neonatal care, young developing children, as well as working with our unique and fascinating teenagers. I am so thrilled to be in a career in which I can work with various ages and stages of growth and development both in community practice as well as hospital-based medicine.”

Dr. Rose Shumiatcher

MD, FRCPC

Dr. Shumiatcher completed her medical school and pediatric residency training at UBC. As a general pediatrician, she works at Fairmont pediatrics, BC Women’s Hospital and on the oncology inpatient unit at BC Children’s Hospital. She enjoys the learning and problem-solving involved in pediatric care, as every patient and family requires a tailored approach.
 
Outside of work, she enjoys books, traveling and catching up with friends and family.
 
“I love being able to see children in all their stages of development. There is nothing more rewarding than a longitudinal practice where I get to witness children grow and help them overcome different obstacles. It always amazes me how resilient children are."

Dr. Ai-Lin Tiah

MB, BCh BAO, FRCPC 

Dr. Tiah obtained her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed her pediatric residency training at the University of British Columbia. She has worked as a general pediatrician at Fairmont Pediatrics since 2008. She enjoys the diversity of general pediatrics and providing longitudinal care for her patients. When not working she tries to lead a balanced life, making time for family, friends, hobbies and volunteer work.

Dr Anas Manouzi

MD, FRCPC

Dr Manouzi completed his medical degree at Université Laval in Quebec City before joining UBC in 2012 for his pediatric residency training. He completed 2 years of pediatric cardiology training before obtaining a sub-specialization degree in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. He enjoys a diversified practice as a Consultant Pediatrician at Fairmont and Pediatric Emergency Physician at BC Children’s Hospital.

Dr Manouzi is a Hudson Scholar in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and his work is grounded by a commitment to anti-racism and health equity.

He embraces the big and small moments of joy with his wife and children: building sandcastles on the beach, searching for slugs in the forest, or popping edamame beans.

Catherine Jones

Catherine graduated from UBC with her BSc. in dietetics in 2019. As part of this program she completed a 1-year internship with PHSA. She has been working at BC Children’s Hospital since 2019 and recently started at Fairmont Pediatrics providing private nutrition consultations. 

Catherine has had the pleasure of working with kids at all ages and stages from 0-18 years old with a variety of eating and nutrition challenges. Her areas of expertise include: picky eating, infant feeding and nutrition including introduction to solids, food allergies, managing restrictive diets, supporting children with poor intake or poor growth, tube feeding and nutrition for medically complex children. 

Catherine strongly believes that “all foods fit” and enjoys helping children and families develop a healthy relationship with food. In her spare time you can find Catherine reading a book, running or walking on the seawall, hiking on the North Shore or enjoying the latest ice cream flavour at Rain or Shine.

Brenda McDonald

Brenda discovered early on that she had a passion for people and pursued education in Political Science. After many years of being a stay at home mother, Brenda chose to explore a career in the medical field to fulfill her passion for helping others. She has a long history of community volunteerism and is very connected to her community. 

Brenda is a proud and dedicated mother to her teenage daughter. As a creative person, she is an avid knitter and sewer but her favorite thing is laughing and spending time with close friends and enjoying life in the city.

Laura Angeline is a child at heart when working with children and elders. Her work experiences and education in biomedical, and health sciences, led to certifications in ophthalmology, and health administration. Walking barefoot along the sea, and basking in the sunshine under an open sky is her second nature.

She stayed on to complete a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine and then worked for a year at the Stollery Children's Hospital Emergency Department before returning home to Vancouver to work at the Emergency Department at BC Children's Hospital. While on maternity leave with her first child, she made the decision to hang up her emergency medicine hat, and return to her first love, general pediatrics. 
 
When not at work, she is a busy Mom to two young children and loves to spend her days with them playing, reading and exploring the parks and beaches in their neighborhood. When she can find a quiet moment, she loves to practice yoga and to find excuses to put her baking skills to good use making cakes, cupcakes and decorating cookies. 

It's a true privilege to look after my patients and their families. I love the diversity of my practice, caring for infants and children of all ages. And, after many years in acute care, its very rewarding to look after my patients over time and see them grow and develop and thrive. 


Catherine Jones

BSc, RD

Catherine graduated from UBC with her BSc. in dietetics in 2019. As part of this program she completed a 1-year internship with PHSA. She has been working at BC Children’s Hospital since 2019 and recently started at Fairmont Pediatrics providing private nutrition consultations. 

Catherine has had the pleasure of working with kids at all ages and stages from 0-18 years old with a variety of eating and nutrition challenges. Her areas of expertise include: picky eating, infant feeding and nutrition including introduction to solids, food allergies, managing restrictive diets, supporting children with poor intake or poor growth, tube feeding and nutrition for medically complex children. 

Catherine strongly believes that “all foods fit” and enjoys helping children and families develop a healthy relationship with food. In her spare time you can find Catherine reading a book, running or walking on the seawall, hiking on the North Shore or enjoying the latest ice cream flavour at Rain or Shine.

Paula’s sense of adventure and love of children brought her here from England as a young adult. 

What an absolute honour it has been, representing Fairmont Pediatrics for the past 30 years. 


















Brenda McDonald

Brenda discovered early on that she had a passion for people and pursued education in Political Science. After many years of being a stay at home mother, Brenda chose to explore a career in the medical field to fulfill her passion for helping others. She has a long history of community volunteerism and is very connected to her community. 

Brenda is a proud and dedicated mother to her teenage daughter. As a creative person, she is an avid knitter and sewer but her favorite thing is laughing and spending time with close friends and enjoying life in the city.







Laura Angeline Valerio

Laura Angeline is a child at heart when working with children and elders. Her work experiences and education in biomedical, and health sciences, led to certifications in ophthalmology, and health administration. Walking barefoot along the sea, and basking in the sunshine under an open sky is her second nature.
